Five things to do during Easter in Mallorca

Easter is here and there is no better place, in my opinion, to celebrate this holiday than here in vibrant and colourful Mallorca. Below I have listed a few of the many things you can do in Mallorca this Easter, enjoy!

Easter Markets

There are many Easter markets throughout Mallorca. These markets offer a great opportunity to experience the local culture and traditions. The Easter market in Santanyí, interior design heaven, is one of my favourites because of all the traditional Easter decorations and treats you can find there. One of the most popular is the Fira del Ram Easter Fair, which takes place in Palma and features a variety of rides, games, and food stalls. Another great Easter Market is the one in Pollença, which offers a range of crafts and local products.

Easter fun & Open house at “Living Room”

Thursday 6th of April 16.00-19.00, the Living room in Palma, will host a free afternoon where you can explore Swedish Easter traditions. Here you will be able to paint eggs, make easter branches, learn how to fly to “Blåkulla” on a broomstick, and enjoy the Easter afternoon vibes! Saturday 8th of April from 12.00-15.00 they will host an open house with ceramics, egg painting, and baking in the kitchen. It’s free entrance and you pay only 23€ (inc. materials) for 2 hours in the ceramics classes with Maria.

Easter Brunch

Mallorca offers an array of dining options for Easter brunch with traditional Spanish cuisine. One of the top-rated restaurants for Easter brunch is the Son Julia Country House, which offers a buffet spread on its restaurant terrace. The brunch has gained a reputation for its stunning location and delicious food. For those looking for a traditional Easter brunch experience, the Can Cera Gastro-Bar offers a brunch menu that includes typical Spanish dishes such as tortilla de patatas and croquetas. The restaurant is located in a restored 17th-century palace in the heart of Palma's old town.

Religious Processions

One of the most significant and memorable events during Easter in Mallorca is the religious processions. These processions begin on Palm Sunday at churches all over the island, with the bearing of palm branches. Throughout the week, there are various processions, including the Procession of Silence on Good Friday, which takes place in Palma and sees participants dressed in black, carrying candles, and walking in silence to commemorate the death of Jesus. On Easter Sunday, there are processions that celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. One of the most popular is the Encuentro, which takes place in many towns and villages across the island. During this procession, two groups walk towards each other, one carrying a statue of the Virgin Mary and the other carrying a statue of the resurrected Jesus. When they meet, the statues are lifted up to symbolize the reunion of Mary and Jesus after his resurrection.

Live Music and Shows

If you're looking for live music and shows, Mallorca has plenty of options. One popular venue is the Palma Auditorium, which hosts a variety of performances throughout the year, including concerts, ballets, and operas. During Easter, they often have special performances, so it's worth checking their schedule. Another option is the Trui Teatre, which hosts a variety of events, including concerts, comedy shows, and theater performances. During Easter, they often have special shows, so it's worth checking their schedule as well.
